Moth balls fumes are deadly poison to cats, dogs, birds, and cause nerve damage in humans.

Birds:

  1. Always keep Kwik Stop handy incase of bleeding.
  2. If a bird breaks a blood feather the only way to stop the bleeding is to pull the feather from the bird.
  3. Keep a bird off your shoulder as when the bird gets on your shoulder it becomes dominant and more aggressive.
  4. Never cook in nonstick cookware. The Teflon produces gases that are toxic to birds which can kill your bird even if you can not smell the fumes.
  5. Do not use Fabreeze around birds as it contains zinc oxide which will cause death by zinc poisoning, like lead poison in people, it is deadly.
  6. New carpet gives off formaldehyde fumes and it is deadly to birds.
  7. Lowering a bird's cage to where you are taller and the bird is below your eye level makes for a less aggressive and gentler bird.
  8. If you travel and have birds and dogs it is safer and best to put the birds in a room where the door can be closed so the dogs cannot get to the birds.
  9. If you go to a pet shop or bird expo always change your clothes and wash or shower (preferably) before going near your birds to prevent carrying in diseases.
  10. Pellet diets are healthier and better for the bird than a seed diet. The bird will live longer and be healthier.

Cats:

  1. It is better to feed dry food to cats as it helps their teeth and gums. Male cats on a dry food diet are less likely to have kidney trouble.
  2. Using baking soda in the cat box reduces the odor.
  3. Cats enjoy catnip but it should be given sparingly as it can cause intoxication.
  4. Cats groomed daily do not get as many hair balls.
  5. Provide a high place where the cat can rest and perch for their comfort, and security.
  6. 20 Mule Team Borax will keep cat beds smelling fresher and help eliminate fleas.

Dogs:

  1. When training a dog always give rewards whether it is praise or food treats.
  2. If a dog has food left out at all times it will eat less than one fed at specific times.
  3. Make sure that you have the proper tools when grooming your dog.
  4. When choosing a dog research the characteristics and choose one that is suitable for your lifestyle and living arrangements.
  5. Vetsulin is a new insulin made for dogs and is easier on them that the human type insulin.

  7. Dry dog food fed dry is better for a dog's teeth and gums than wet dog food.
  8. Always leave a collar or harness on your dog when you go away, if your Pet Sitter does not know your dog well.

General Security:

  1. Leave on a radio or TV. Pets love it and would-be crooks think you are home.
  2. When leaving for several days always leave your home lights on a timer or have the Pet Sitter alternate them.
  3. Have the Pet Sitter vary the time when she comes so there is no time pattern if anyone should be watching.
  4. Having garbage put out on regular trash days also gives the appearance you are home.
